Born in North London, Paul Rocca is an artist who now lives and works in Hertfordshire. He graduated from University in 1986 with a BA in Fine Art and since then has regularly exhibited his work in a myriad of public and private exhibitions in Hertfordshire and London. He is influenced by many artists both past and contemporary, and their influence can often be seen in Paul's work as he explores his own ideas. Paul has always had a great interest in the patterns that he sees in the world around him and subsequently presents them as a focus in his art, through very different mediums including carving, stained glass, oil, pastel and watercolour. His most recent body of work sees him exploring pattern in unconventional ways on everyday objects that tend towards the retro; such as cars, radios and other iconic objects. This work is a combination of free hand drawing and computer generated mark making and colour. The objects he draws are personified to embellish their simple origins and create a character around the original design. Objects are subsequently distorted through the use of line to draw attention to this characterisation.
